THE CHALLENGE

The City found that key design choices caused excessive data growth in their Project Costing modules, leading to unsustainable increases and potentially higher hosting fees. They needed to consult an expert to analyze the issue and recommend solutions to avoid increased hosting charges.

PROPOSED SOLUTION

Initial plans to redesign the application configuration to reduce data generation were abandoned when it was found necessary for reporting. Data archiving was also unsuitable since the data was only two years old. Instead, the proposed solution involved summarizing labor data, which was not required in detail for accounting or reporting.

SERVICES PROVIDED
  • Data and Configuration Analysis
  • Data Summarization Prototyping
  • Growth Projections
  • Project Planning
The Results
The City of Seattle saved literally hundreds of thousands of dollars by reducing the future growth of their data.  The return on the investment of consulting spend was extremely positive for the City.  After the labor summarization efforts, the City completely changed the trajectory of data growth and prevented large cost increases.
